The Gamers Box TV: Xbox 720?

What is the life expectancy of the Xbox 360?

It took only four years for Microsoft’s original Xbox to be replaced by the new and improved Xbox 360. But this weekend brought news from the Consumer Electronics Show that despite marking it’s fifth anniversary this year, the Xbox 360 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Guardian UK reported David Hufford, Microsoft senior director of Xbox product management told CES attendees, “The Xbox 360 is the console of the long future for us.” With recent software and hardware updates including a total revamp of the dashboard, adding integration with Facebook, Twitter, LastFM, Netflix and Facebook, and the upcoming Project Natal, the 360, according to Microsoft, may only be at its life cycle midpoint.

In a bad economy that’s good news for gamers who won’t need to shell out hundreds of dollars for a new system (and obsolete games). Besides, with games that look as good as the current crop of releases (Fight Night 4, Assassins Creed 2, FORZA Motorsport 3), is anyone even thinking about the next generation console?
